I had a moment where I almost reached for my ring finger out of habit and then remembered the whole saga of taking the ring off. That was not one decision. It was like a tectonic shift compressed into one symbolic act. People see a ring as jewelry. It’s not. It’s role. Identity. Promise. Continuity. Public declaration. Private belonging. Taking it off did not mean moving on. It meant acknowledging a reality my body still hated.
