The Wall

I still get caught by the thought that she should be here for this. Some school thing. Some holiday thing. Some random success or disaster with the kids. Some stupid story from the day. And it’s not always dramatic. Sometimes it’s just a quiet internal sentence: she should be here for this. That sentence doesn’t solve anything. It doesn’t open up a profound new insight. It just sits there like a fact with nowhere to go. She should be here for this. She isn’t. End of file.
