The Wall

A stupid ad came on showing some couple sleeping peacefully and I got irrationally mad. Actually, no — maybe rationally mad. There’s a whole economy built around ordinary partnership. Everything assumes there are two adults. Two incomes. Two opinions. Two bodies in the bed. Two people trading off the grind. Then one dies and suddenly every commercial is like a tiny middle finger from mainstream life. Look at these people solving a problem together. Look at this shared burden. Look at this adorable domestic normalcy. Great. Love that for them. Meanwhile I’m over here held together by coffee, obligation, and whatever fumes are left in a nervous system that’s been lit on fire for years. So yes, I got angry at a mattress commercial. Add it to the list.
