I think one reason dark humor shows up so much is that it’s one of the few ways to tell the truth without drowning in it. If I can joke that dishes and laundry are my life partners now, it doesn’t mean I’m minimizing the pain. It means I’m trying to puncture it enough to breathe. Sometimes humor is not avoidance. Sometimes it’s the only crowbar available.
